RESEARCH

In order to enhance information on the Nigerian financial services sector, EFInA will undertake a number of research initiatives.

Our research findings will:

· Provide regular, credible statistics on financial needs and usage by all  Nigerians

· Offer in-depth qualitative analysis of financial patterns and financial service usage by  poor   households

· Measure access to and demand for essential financial products  including savings, credit, insurance,   payments and remittances services

· Establish EFInA as an information repository for accurate and comprehensive information on the   financial sector in Nigeria

Our main research tool is the EFInA Access to Finance Survey. It is a demand side survey that is nationwide and covers over 20,000 consumers.

The survey is conducted every two years and aims to:

· Establish credible benchmarks and indicators of current financial penetration in Nigeria

· Document usage of financial products across both formal and informal sectors from an urban and rural   perspective

· Explore financial behaviour, attitudes and interests; quality of life; household financial management;   attitudes to the use of technology

· Provide insights into regulatory and market obstacles to growth and innovation

· Highlight opportunities for policy reform and innovation in product development

Other research initiatives conducted or underway include:

· Savings Mobilization in Nigeria: a Scoping Study on Informal Savings in Lagos

· Scoping Study on the Market for Payment Services in Nigeria
